Project to improve Chinese ac efficiency

A joint initiative launched in China today seeks to improve the efficiency of China’s air conditioners.

The sustainable energy foundation Energy Foundation China (EFC), working with the Kigali Cooling Efficiency Programme China (K-CEP China), seeks to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from residential and commercial air conditioners from 2018 to 2020.

The EFC will work with Chinese government agencies, research institutes, and air conditioner manufacturers to improve cooling efficiency and promote green products in a country which produces over 130 million room air conditioners per year. Projects include developing new energy-efficiency standards and labels.

Formed in 2016, the Kigali Cooling Efficiency Programme is a collaboration between 18 foundations committing $52m to help developing countries transition to energy efficient, climate-friendly, affordable cooling solutions.
