Carrefour pledges to reduce its CO2 emissions by 40% by 2025

During the One Planet Summit held in Paris in December 2017, Supermarket group Carrefour signed the „French Business Climate Pledge 2018“, thus agreeing to a reduction of CO2 emissions. Carrefour plans to reduce emissions by 40% by 2025 and by 70% by 2025 compared to 2010 levels.

The main direct sources of CO2 emissions are concerned, such as the energy consumption of refrigerants or their usage, as well as indirect sources, including the transport of goods.

As part of the „Plan Antigaspi“ (meaning „anti-waste plan“), adding doors torefrigerated display cabinets, using LED lighting systems and managing intelligent meters in stores should all help to achieve another of Carrefour’s goals: reducing energy consumption by 30%.

Carrefour has invested EUR 150 million in replacing HFC refrigerants with natural refrigerants such as CO2 (R744) since 2015. Carrefour claims to have already reduced its CO2 emissions by 45.3% since 2010 thanks to this kind of action.
