Beijer launches CO2 rack in South Africa

Beijer Ref has introduced its CO2 refrigeration technology to the South African market.

Targeting another refrigeration market showing an increasing interest in CO2 technology, the Beijer Ref subsidiary SCM Ref Africa unveiled a CO2 transcritical rack at the Frigair tradeshow in Johannesburg, earlier this month.

“This is SCM Ref Africa’s first transcritical unit,” said Greyling Wentzel, design and production manager at SCM Ref Africa.

Formerly known as Phoenix Racks, the company’s name changed to SCM Ref Africa at the end of last year, following its acquisition by the Beijer Ref Group in 2011.

Seeing a huge opportunity for CO2 transcritical in South Africa, Wentzel said: “At the moment, there’s a bit of a skills shortage, but as soon as we can up the skills and get more people interested, then hopefully as more people use CO2 transcritical, the costs will come down.”
