Omnico Engineering sees NH3/CO2 growth in Philippines

Having designed and installed the first NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration systems in the Phiippines, Omnico Engineering Ltd. foresees growing demand for natural refrigerant-based HVAC&R equipment there. This website spoke to Omnico Engineering Managing Director Bjarne Waldstrom about these first installations ahead of the ATMOsphere Asia conference on natural refrigerants, to be held in Singapore next month.

Thermal energy storage improves efficiency at warehouse

Viking Cold Solutions, a Houston, Texas-based thermal energy storage (TES) systems manufacturer, reported in a study last week that it was able to reduce both peak energy consumption and peak demand at a California frozen food distribution center by installing one of its systems in the facility’s 93,000-sq-ft low-temperature freezer.

NH3-cooled heat pumps ‘outperform’ HFCs

Technology based on natural refrigerant ammonia (NH3) can provide efficient heating and cooling in various heat pump configurations, according to a paper presented by experts from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory at last month’s Gustav Lorentzen conference (held on 18-20 June in Valencia, Spain).

Australian food manufacturer opts for NH3

In a sign that an increasing number of industrial end users are recognising the benefits of moving to natural refrigerants, Australia-based freshly prepared chilled and frozen meal manufacturer Jewel Fine Foods opted to install an ammonia-based refrigeration system at its new factory in Sydney.
